Downton Abbey Website Crashes Again

PBS limped along Wednesday as officials in New York and around the U.S. struggled to deal with a flood of Web traffic by people seeking to watch the Masterpiece Theater’s season premiere of Downton Abbey.

The online streaming site has attracted more than 30 million visits since it posted Episode 1: Life After Matthew on Monday, Executive Director Brian J. Reddington said.

But visitors to the site Tuesday faced a second day of frustrating log-in problems and processing delays.
“There is no question that the volume of Web visits that we’ve had over the course of the last two days exceed any projection that we might have made,” Reddington said. “Officials are working to boost the website’s ability to handle more traffic.”

Reddington said figures on how many people had successfully viewed the new episode in New York and elsewhere since Tuesday morning were not available.
PBS President Paula Kerger has also come under fire for her oft repleted pledge during the spring fundraising drive “If you have a favorite character and you like them, you will be able to keep them”

That earned her the uncoveted “Lie Of The Year” award by globalsoap.org a non partisan fact checking group.
